DOMINIC is a nine-year-old black and white male cat. Dominic has been at the shelter for quite some time, coming to us in the beginning of April. Dominic was found wandering a residential neighborhood, and this poor boy’s ordeal in the struggle to survive outside was apparent. He had developed lungworm, and treatment was required to eliminate it. Dominic had ear mites that had been so long untreated his ears crinkled permanently from the damage. He had cuts all over his body. To get him back in physical health was easy enough, but we wondered if this boy could ever learn to be anything other than withdrawn and frightened. When he first came to us he would cower, huddled as small as he physically could make himself, and flinch and shake every time your hand would go near him. When we gave him his own cat bed, he had no idea it was to sleep in…he would hide underneath it. No one ever saw Dominic eat, he would never eat in front of someone; the only assurance we had he was eating was the empty bowl! But patience, kindness, and gentleness always wins the day.

Dominic has blossomed, and these days one no longer finds him trembling and hiding under his cat bed; one will find him stretched out over it, eyes peering curiously out to see who might stop to visit him!  He’s very observant, and watches with more and more curiosity the bustling activity of our shelter, and you can see his longing to be a part of it. Dominic really likes nose and under chin rubs, and he loves when you talk to him. He makes us laugh, because he flips over so you’ll keep talking to him and rubbing his chin! Dominic has beautiful green eyes, and if there is such a thing as a soul, Dominic’s shines out through his eyes. He’s got the cutest face, with chunky cheeks and a unique formation of black and white on his head. We can only imagine the cat he’s going to become once he’s settled into the warmth, safety and companionship of a forever home. We think he’s going to make an awesome feline companion. Come meet him, and see if you agree!

At PAAWS RI, all of the cats that come into our care are spayed/neutered, receive a rabies vaccination, distemper vaccinations, de-worming, flea treatment, microchipping, testing for Feline Leukemia/FIV, and a fecal test.
